Homosexuality is Sin

God! Please open their eyes that they might see the truth, turn and be healed. They speak of things that they do not know and teach false doctrines that lead many to eternal damnation. Please forgive them Lord, for they do not know what they do.

My heart is deeply troubled. Words seem to fail me. I cry out to the Lord for wisdom and truth to speak to the blind, but nothing comes to mind. In the last few days, I have been in a discussion at Promomusings about homosexuality. How can people, who profess to be Christians, be so blind to the truth that is clearly presented in God's Word to us? People are promoting homosexuality as a God approved lifestyle. They ignore scripture and sound teaching all the while proclaiming lies that decieving many.

Scripture is direct about what is true, no elaborate interpretation is needed in these following verses. They point to the truth. That like all other sins, homosexuality is also a sin and a life time of following such sin will result in eternal punishment.

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (Leviticus 18:22)

"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." (Leviticus 20:13)

In Genesis, there is the account of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Their top sin was homosexuality (Genesis 19:5 says, "They called to Lot, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.'"). God destroyed both of the towns because of their sins. Jude 1:7 says this about Sodom and Gomorrah, "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."

In Judges, a very similar incident occurred. A man and his concubine stopped at a house for rest. The men of the town came out and demanded to have sex with the man. The owner of the house refused and gave them his daughter and the concubine. They raped and killed the concubine. Because of their great sin, God commanded the rest of Israel to fight against them and kill them. (Read Judges 19-20)

"Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (Romans 1:26-27)

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

These scriptures that I gave to you are very clear. Homosexuality is indeed a sin in God's eyes. When he created the world, he created man and women and meant them to become one. Homosexuality is an abomination of something that God created to be sacred.

Comments:
Keith, instead of name-calling you could be helping him understand a different view.

Jesus' teaching is not the only bellweather of truth for a Christian. Some topics were not directly addressed by Jesus - but, they are addressed in the NT, specifically.

1 Cor. 6:9-11, as well as 1 Tim. 1:8-10 both specifically name homosexuality as a sin.

The Epistles are the handbook for the Church. Thus, we are specifically told that homosexuality is not permitted.

Second, you're committing a logical fallacy there. Jesus did not say anything specifically concerning homosexuality - however, it does not directly follow that since He never said anything about homosexuality, and He DID say something about "self-righteousness", that the assertion that homosexuality is wrong thus makes the asserter a Pharisee. There is no logical connection between the two - and you don't even try to make one. Just for reference, that is the fallacy of an Affirmative Conclusion From a Negative Premise, and probably a False Analogy as well.

To make such a claim as yours, there would have to be some connection between the two statements... however, it is not only logically false, but Biblically unsound.

Mike, you were right on. Keep on keepin on, bro.

The problem once something becomes accepted, it is very difficult to make people realize that it is wrong.

Good post from Joshua. Keith, Jesus never specifically addressed child molesting, wife beating, alchoholism, etc. Is it ok to practice these things? The main error of all utopian theology is the divorcing of the gospels from the rest of scripture. Paul's words carry the same weight as Jesus' words, as they are both GOD'S Word. These guys critique the "modernist" institutions for taking scripture out of context and they do worse by actually re-writing them according to their warm, fuzzy, subjective feelings. Can anyone say GNOSTIC? Name calling is the hallmark of all things liberal.

God bless you all!

Keith, you have called me a Pharisee. I have written a post about the pharisees. I think that the major difference between Christians and the Pharisees is this. The Pharisees did not do what they preached. Christians do what they preach.

I have searched my heart, to see if what you said was true. I do not believe it to be. Unlike the Pharisees, I have been forgiven of my ugly sins and become righteous in the eyes of God, as all Christians are. The righteousness of all Christians is because of God’s amazing grace and love for us, not from what we have done. In other words, it is not self-righteousness, but a righteousness from God.

The first section on my post was talking about the homosexuals that I conversed with and that they are promoting the false doctrine and by doing so leading more astray. It is truly my hearts desire that they should see their mistake and turn to God and be healed from their sins. It is also my hearts cry that they would be forgiven, as with all who are not saved.

No it is not a sin to think that homosexuality is not a sin.

I think you may have misunderstood me.

James 5:
19My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
Keith, ALL scripture is God breathed therefore it is all the Word of God. They are the Words that reveal the WORD. God the Father=author; Jesus Christ=the content;
the Holy Spirit= revealer, teacher, interpreter.
Just because the Bible has been hi-jacked by westernized, right-wing christianity and therefore produced the leftist knee-jerk reaction of discarding any and all Scriptures which don't fit a one-world, pro-gay, marxist economic, affirmative action, agenda we feel we must re-write the intent of God as given to us. There are ,however, 7000 that have not bowed the knee to Baal. 1 Kings 19:13-18
Whem will we learn that the Church is the remnant? It has always been a remnant church, and God has always worked through the remnant.
Michael seems to be a thoughtful, and well studied young man. He has presented his position very articulately and I do not see the pharisee-ism that you are saying he exhibits.
We are so focused on the "remove the log argument"
that it is now a catch-all for not confronting sin issues at all. The apostles were well aware of their own wretchedness, and yet still boldly confronted sin. Paul murdered the early church, and stated that he was chief of sinners, and still spoke against homosexuality and all other sins. Was he a hypocritical pharisee? He understood how great a salvation he had been given, so he was highly qualified to speak and write such words.
So should we all be. We must avoid the trap of teaching that Jesus' words contradict the Law, the prophets or the apostles, which is a favorite device of the warm, fuzzy crowd. We cannot separate His words from the other Scriptures, nor hold them to be more authoritive, as HE would not contatradict the revelation of Himself as found in the rest of the Bible.
HE exists in all the words found in Scripture.
John 5:37-46; 2Peter3:14-18;Luke 24:18-27;Deut 29:29
I apologize for the length.
